JAPANESE PRECISION MEETS UBUD SOUL: YUKI UNVEILS ITS LARGEST AND MOST INTENTIONAL SPACE TO DATE

Founded by Balinese entrepreneurs Rai Sutama, Dewa Wahyu Bintara and Windu Tenaya YUKI has officially unveiled its newest, largest, and most complete expression in the heart of Ubud. Spanning a split level 252 seat venue on the main road right next to the iconic Ubud Palace, YUKI Ubud brings the brand to the island’s cultural center. Featuring their celebrated menu, the kitchen is led by Executive Chef Kadek Budiantara, who has anchored YUKI since its 2021 Canggu launch, under the creative direction of Culinary Director Yudha Permana.

“Away from the coast, guests arrive with an entirely different mindset. In Ubud, culture, craftsmanship, and spirituality live side by side. Ubud gave us permission to go deeper into the Japanese side of YUKI: the ritual, the precision, and the slow presence that this unique setting demands,”  – says Rai Sutama, Founder of YUKI.

Working in close collaboration with local fishermen and farmers, the kitchen pairs Japanese precision with pristine Balinese produce. Signature dishes include Line Caught Island sashimi; Tuna Tartare with truffle mayo and nori cracker; the iconic Wagyu Beef Sando with smoked cheddar cheese, truffle aioli and onion jam; Torched Salmon Maki roll with tuna, crab, tobiko and spicy mayo; Duck kamameshi clay pot rice; and Hokkaido scallop with green goddess dressing and chili oil.

“The drinks program is designed to be approachable and enjoyed by everyone who steps through the doors,” – says Windu Tenaya, Co-Founder and Beverage Director.

Complementing the food program is YUKI’s inventive beverage culture, anchored by a curated selection of Japanese sake, natural wines, and vibrant cocktails. The restaurant’s signature namesake creation, ‘Yukies’, brings together gin, goji berry, calamansi and raspberry yuzu, blending Japanese influences with island flavours. For a savoury twist, the bar crafts complex options such as the ‘Okinawa Martini’ with gin, katsuobushi, capsicum brine, vermouth and olive, alongside the ‘Nori Tomato’ combining gin, nori cordial, citrus and smoked tomato.

Designed with KŌSAME, the split level space takes inspiration from the Japanese Machiya townhouse. Guests step through a signature red portal into a central dining room beneath a skylight, anchored by a living tree, floor level red lighting, and an interactive omakase counter. The layout unfolds across a mezzanine dining area and a dedicated vinyl bar lounge, balancing raw Indonesian stone and ulin wood with pale oak furniture in a quiet interplay of warmth and shadow.
