A blend of 40% Cabernet to 60% Shiraz, and definitely a lesson of never judge a book by its cover. Brown in appearance and initially non-descript on the nose, nothing prepared me for the monolithic impact on the palate, or the finish that lingers for 45-60seconds, even after a two hour decant. A tasting note in 1973 noted it was a monster, needing 10-15 to settle, but who would have realistically have thought 44 years would still see it with so much primary fruit intact. I suspect its lack of balance enabled its survival, but it now gives way to lovely perfumed aroma’s whilst maintaining mind-bending structure (96 points 15/5/11).
