From my limited tastings of young South African Cabernet, I have found them to be overly astringent for my palate, so this 35-year-old KWV Cabernet Sauvignon was a very interesting prospect indeed. As expected, bottle age had alleviated that non preferred aspect, revealing quite a fascinating expression of that countries Cabernet from this Winemakers Co-operative that was founded in 1918. This particularly enjoyable bottle displayed a wine with a surprisingly good finish given its age, which opened up nicely over a two-hour period, with the distinctive aroma of pencil shavings quite noticeable (90 points 25/1/15).
