Not decanted after an initial inspection of the wine, yet distinct pencil shavings were detected on the nose, before the mellow scent of blackcurrants eventually surrendered to camphor, somewhat reminiscent of the opening night of the Winter Opera Season. Despite slightly lacking in colour, palate weight and finish, nonetheless it still had the resonance of a very respectable and well made Cabernet, which overall showed far more than what many would consider just a 43-year-old curio from Winemaker Eric Purbrick in a non preferred vintage (89 points, 26/1/13).
